Hello, friends! We hope you are all doing well during this difficult and strange period. I think most of us can agree that in stressful times like these we need inspiration and creative outlets and support as much as ever. Along with so many wonderful platforms, we want to provide an opportunity for our community members to support one another. We are having an open call for a COVID Artist and Organization Support Library. Next week, we will launch a page on our site (with daily updates and frequent social media promotions) that will list information and link to external websites. If you’re an artist who would like to sell some work, send us your information. If you’re an arts or education organization that is accepting donations at this time, send us your information. There is no deadline, and submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis. Submissions are not juried, but are vetted, and must adhere to the following guidelines for consideration:

Include in the body:
– Your Name/Organization Name
– Location (City, State/Province, Country)
– 3-5 images (1200px wide, sRGB, 72ppi) with relevant copyright info, for promotional purposes
– Direct link to your website/donation platform/shop
– 1-3 sentences about your work or your mission statement (optional)

** Please note: Fraction will not manage any of the sales or donations. 100% of the funds will go to the artist/organization. We will not be charging to list or taking any percentage of sales/donations. All transactions are between the two parties, and Fraction is not responsible for the quality of the product, payment/reimbursement, or delivery of any purchases. We hope to hear from you! **

OK - back to regular business! I am so excited for the 12th Anniversary Issue. It’s my favorite issue of the year. In addition to our four lovely portfolios, we also showcase single images from a wide array of talented artists – AND – this year we also have an amazing selection of analog work from our call Better Living Through Chemistry, curated by Michael Kirchoff, Editor-in-Chief of Analog Forever Magazine. We are very excited to share Michael’s selections and thoughts. We have split the work for the 12th Anniversary call up into two groups (Group 1 and Group 2) so make sure to follow both links to see the full selection. Thanks to everyone who submitted! It was incredibly tough to narrow down the selections, and we truly appreciate all of those who took the time to share work with us.

Our featured portfolios this month include striking explorations of light, color and form by Colleen Fitzgerald; ruminations on isolation during COVID-19 in the form of still lifes by Mark Griffiths; a heartfelt examination of the hometown of Nicholas Meyer; and vibrant translations of the Alaskan landscape by Tom Turner. Charcoal Book Club’s May book is Big Brother by Louis Quail. Check out the book, as well as Charcoal’s amazing selection and subscription plans.
