Otherness by Nick Treviss
We are all individuals, which by definition suggests we are all singularly distinctive. But the notion of a person presenting a singular representation of them selves doesn’t ring true. We are all defined by our personal ideas of who we are, our egos, as well as by our social environments and peer groups. As a result our individual identity presents in a multitude of manifestations through out our daily lives.
As a portrait photographer I am well aware of how my presence, as well as the photographic process itself, can influence and determine the manifestation and presentation of an individual's identity and it is with this in mind that I have produced this body of work. I have experimented with and employed a number of photographic strategies with the intention of producing images that go some way in offering as true a visual representation of the individual as possible with as little affect as possible.
