CCNY 2010 National Photography Competition with juror James Casebere*

CCNY 2010 National Photography Competition with juror James Casebere*

Deadline: April 19, 2010

The Camera Club of New York (CCNY) is pleased to announce an open call for applications for its Annual National Photography Competition. Photographers and photo–based artists working in any genre are eligible to apply. Applicants are encouraged to submit a cohesive body of work.

Selected applicants will be featured in an exhibition at the CCNY gallery in the summer of 2010 and also on our website. The first place selection will receive a $500.00 cash award.

For more information or to download an entry form, please visit

About the Juror:

James Casebere‘s pioneering work has established him at the forefront of artists working with constructed photography. For the last thirty years, Casebere has devised increasingly complex models that are subsequently photographed in his studio. Based on architectural, art historical and cinematic sources, his table–sized constructions are made of simple materials, pared down to essential forms. Casebere‘s abandoned spaces are hauntingly evocative and oftentimes suggestive of prior events, encouraging the viewer to reconstitute a narrative or symbolic reading of his work

The Center Awards

By now, the announcement of the winners of the Center Awards is buzzing around the internet.  Center continues to put on important events and people pay attention to them.

Congratulations to all of the winners of the Center Awards. I look forward to meeting everyone at Review Santa Fe.  If you have not seen the winning work yet, please take some time and check out the winners and honorable mentions on the Fraction website.

I want to say thanks to Laura Pressley, the Executive Director of Center, for asking me to be a part of the Review Santa Fe jurying team.  I think we (me, Kate Ware and Denise Wolff) made some great decisions and I am looking forward to June.

Win a David Maisel Print for $20

David Maisel (Fraction Issue 10) has a friend who is quite sick and has no health insurance.  To help her out, he is raffling off one of his prints.  Here is what he has to say:

Here’s the chance to own one of my photographs for only $20 !!!!!

I am raffling off an original, signed 15″ x 15″ photograph to raise funds for my friend Meg Patterson, who is struggling with cancer and lacks health insurance. If you would like a chance at owning one of my prints, please send a $20 check made out to the “Meg Patterson Cancer Treatment Fund”. Please send your check to: David Maisel Studio, 100 Ebbtide Avenue, suite 320, Sausalito, CA 94965.

I will draw one of the checks randomly on April 15th, when the raffle will conclude. The winner will be announced on Facebook. Checks must be received by that date in order to be eligible for the raffle drawing. Checks received after that date will be returned. The selected person will receive the print from me by May 15. After the April 15th raffle drawing has concluded, checks will be deposited to the “Meg Patterson Cancer Treatment Fund” based in Astoria, OR 97103.

The photograph being auctioned is “The Lake Project 38″ (see attached). It is part of the series “The Lake Project,” which has been published in a monograph by Nazraeli Press, and exhibited internationally.

If you would like to increase your chances at owning this photograph, please send as many $20 checks as you please. (This is, after all, a fundraiser for someone who needs our help). And of course, in the spirit of offering your help to Meg, if you would like to make your check for an amount greater than $20, that would be deeply appreciated. (Please note that these are not tax deductible donations).

About Meg:
Meg Patterson has been a committed theater director for more than 25 years, and is especially drawn to the plays of Shakespeare. Because of the recurrence of her cancer, she has recently postponed both her wedding and her enrollment to graduate school.

Thank you in advance for participating!

Please consider doing this.  It’s for a great cause.

Review Santa Fe-2010

The selection for this years Review Santa Fe has been made and the emails have been sent out. Congratulations to those who were selected.  There were three jurors and I was one of them.  It was truly an honor to be asked to be a part of the jury and to work side by side with Kate Ware and Denise Wolff.  It was certainly a learning experience for me.
I look forward to seeing everyone in June, in Santa Fe.  It is going to be a great time.
